Looking for scary food fun this October in Salem, Massachusetts? You’ll find it at the Salem Haunted Magic Show! This annual October tradition blends stories of real life happenings with theatrical magic and unbelievable life performances and mindreading. This year, they are returning to Salem Haunted Happenings with their new show, HYSTERIA: X and we’ve got all the details in this post!
History of the Salem Haunted Magic Show
This season marks the 10 year anniversary of the Salem Haunted Magic Show! Now an annual tradition during the Halloween season, the show started off with only 40 seats and 18 shows, performed in the Hawthorne Hotel. Today, the show takes place in Emerson Hall, the theater within Tabernacle Church, and in 2021 the Salem Haunted Magic Show has 56 shows scheduled with 100 seats per show (which we expect to sell out!)
Each year comes with a new version of the Salem Haunted Magic Show, and all of the sets and props are 100% custom made by Christopher Bolter, the creative mastermind behind the show. Bolter runs the Salem Haunted Magic Show with his family, and the values of this family business are passed on to the community each year with a portion of the show’s income being donated to a local charity.

Know Before You Go:
Get your tickets in advance! This is true of any event you are hoping to attend during Haunted Happenings, but it is especially true for the Salem Haunted Magic Show because we know from previous years that this event will sell out. Visit thesalemmagicshow.com to be sure you have your tickets in advance.
The Salem Haunted Magic Show is not a children’s magic show. It is on the PG-13 end of “all ages” (and no one knows your kids better than you), so we recommend browsing their website and using your own discretion. If you are looking for something for younger kids, we have a list of family-friendly activities in October here.
COVID-19 tests are not required to enter the show. Salem’s testing requirement applies to indoor events like costume balls and parties where guests may be moving around while removing their masks to eat or drink. We recommend taking a test before you travel anyway, but it is not required to attend this event. You can find Salem’s COVID-19 guidance here.
Arrive early! Parking in Salem can be one of the scariest parts of visiting in October. We recommend leaving ample time to park in Salem so you are able to make your showtime. (You can also avoid traffic altogether by taking the MBTA Commuter Rail, free parking shuttle on October weekends, or the Salem Ferry.)
