Ever wondered how to cast your own spell? Look no further than Within A Witching Hour Spellcasting, a hands-on magic experience located at 1 Liberty Street. This unique family-friendly show not only encourages, but thrives on participation from every member of the audience in order to make the magic happen.
As you descend the stairs and enter the newly renovated Black Box Theater at Burying Point Productions, located adjacent to the Salem Witch Trials Memorial and Charter Street Burying Point, you’ll discover an intimate space that fuses magic and technology. Based on traditional Wiccan magic still actively practiced in Salem today, you’ll notice the witch’s sacred space and four elemental objects — Earth, Air, Fire, and Water — needed to create the spellcasting circle at the center of the room. A projector casts images onto all four walls of the theater, creating a captivating, immersive show.
After you take your seat, you’ll be guided into the 30-minute show with a voiceover narration, and shortly after you’ll be greeted by a witch. They will lead you through the basics of casting your own spell, all while dispelling old, outdated concepts of witchcraft and providing you with a “first foot in the water” to modern-day Wiccan practices, as witch Lana Lazuli told us. The witch will introduce the concept of a “Witch’s Ladder,” and instruct you on how to cast your very own spell. People of all ages will be captivated by the detailed storytelling and lyricism of the presentation.
One of the most important components of the experience is that you will take your spell home with you, and participate in what Lana called “working magic” — boosting your efforts to make your dreams come true.
Burying Point Productions is adjacent to the Salem Witch Village, so be sure to visit its gift shop on your way out. There, you can find items hand-made by the resident witches, including spell jars, spell kits, and more. You can also find T-shirts, mugs, pet items, and more that make great souvenirs or gifts for friends.
This season, Burying Point Productions plans to host various engaging and family-friendly events, such as a slime potion DIY experience on Saturday and Sunday mornings in October. They also operate two themed walking tours of the city, including the long-running Candlelit Ghostly Walking Tour.
You can learn more about everything they have to offer at buryingpointproductions.com. There, you’ll also find their combo ticket, which includes live spellcasting and your choice of a guided walking tour of the city for a discount admission.
We hope to see you there, and Blessed Be!
