Visiting Salem in October? As downtown streets become busier, the City of Salem may close certain roads to vehicle traffic earlier and more frequently on weekends to help reduce congestion and improve pedestrian safety.
To make getting around easier, designated taxi and rideshare pick-up and drop-off locations will be available near the downtown perimeter on October weekends.
Visitors using Uber, Lyft, taxis, or other rideshare services should plan to use one of the following locations:
- Old Salem Jail Lot Cul-de-Sac, 161 Bridge Street
- Green Trail, south side near the striped pavement area
- Margin Street, 55–79 Margin Street, in front of Lifebridge
- North Street, Zone 697 off Franklin Street, in the parking spaces facing North Street
Uber and Lyft have been notified of the designated locations and planned road closures, and local taxi operators are also being informed.
Because traffic patterns and road closures can change throughout the day, allow extra travel time and be prepared to walk a short distance between your pick-up or drop-off location and your downtown destination.These locations are intended to help keep vehicles moving while making Salem’s busiest streets safer and easier to navigate for everyone.
