Something New Is Brewing on the Lawn at Witch Pix

Now in our 11th season in Salem, Witch Pix has something we’ve never had before – a front lawn. So naturally, we filled it with pumpkins, witch hats and a little October magic.

Our new home at 29 Congress Street has given us the opportunity to bring some of the Witch Pix experience outdoors. This October, our front yard has become a colorful pumpkin patch, gathering place and home to an entirely new venture.

More than 100 pumpkins spill across the lawn among hay bales, colorful mums and cornstalks. Upcycled church pews and purple lawn furniture offer places to sit for a spell, while an antique market cart decked out in Witch Pix purple and gold overflows with flowers and pumpkins – and has already become a favorite photo stop.

After dark, purple and orange lights illuminate the house and front-yard trees. It’s a place to take a selfie, catch your breath and enjoy a little October atmosphere away from Salem’s busiest crowds.

And sitting right in the middle of it all is something completely new.

Look Under the Purple Pavilion

This fall, Witch Pix has partnered with professional hat designer Sascha Nelson to create Salem Hat Company.

You’ll find Sascha beneath our Purple Pavilion, a 15-foot hexagonal purple canvas tent trimmed in black and silver with a wonderfully pointy Renaissance Faire top. Part marketplace, part workshop and a little “under the big top,” it’s hard to miss.

Witch Pix has designed and sold decorated witch hats (and capes) for seven years. As our photography business grew, however, there was less time to devote to creating fresh designs. A partnership with a full-time hat maker felt like the perfect next step.

Sascha brings years of experience traveling to Renaissance Faires around the country and what she describes as “endless creativity and energy.” She’s energized by seeing a happy customer in the perfect hat, and her Salem residency this October is exclusive to Witch Pix.

Visitors can browse Salem Hat Company daily from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., no appointment necessary. Expect a well-stocked selection of witch hats in an ever-changing array of colors and styles, along with carefully curated crowns, headpieces and horns. Sascha will continue creating new pieces throughout October – many of them made right under the purple top.

Want something uniquely yours? Salem Hat Company offers 20-minute custom hat consultations and immersive 90-minute private design sessions with Sascha, plus hands-on Hat-Making Workshops for those who want to join in the creative process. Advance reservations are encouraged and can be made through the Witch Pix Salem Hat Company page.

More October Fun on the Lawn

On October 25-26, we’re planning a $10 jack-o’-lantern pumpkin sale for local families, with 10% of proceeds benefiting the PTO at Witchcraft Heights Elementary School.

And we’re saving a little extra fun for Halloween night, when the Witch Pix yard will welcome trick-or-treaters with family-friendly activities, treats and perhaps a few things that pop!

So, whether your Salem plans include dressing up for a Witch Pix photo shoot, discovering the witch hat that completes your look, designing or making a hat of your own, or simply wandering through the pumpkins, come see what’s happening at 29 Congress Street.

Step inside for costumes, photography and a little transformation. Step outside for witch hats, pumpkins and October fun.

This year, there’s Witch Pix magic happening on both sides of the purple front door.
