Cat Magic: Harnessing the Feral Feminine

November 1, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Throughout history, witches, cats, and feminists have been viewed as demonic contagions to be destroyed, erotic enigmas to be dominated, and liberating identities to grasp for agency. In this lecture/workshop, Kristen J. Sollée, author of Witches, Sluts, Feminists: Conjuring the Sex Positive and Cat Call: Reclaiming the Feral Feminine will share her research on the role of cats in gender politics of the past millennium, and art advisor and tarot reader Sarah Potter will help participants incorporate cat magic into their witchcraft practice.

The event will begin with a reading by Sollée from Cat Call, followed by a lecture on the cultural associations between the feline and the feminine in art, pop culture, and politics. The second half of the event will feature Potter’s workshop, where she will explore where cats appear in the tarot, what spreads can be used with your cats, and her own experiences reading tarot for people and their cats over the past decade. Participants will leave with a zine that features historical facts and practical tips about feminist feline lore and magic. Kristen Sollée will also be signing books at the end of the event.

Tickets ($25) available at HausWitchStore.com.
