Experience “Cry Innocent” This October & Immerse Yourself in the History of the Salem Witch Trials

October 2, 2021

Cry Innocent: The People vs. Bridget Bishop returns to Salem Haunted Happenings this October with their immersive theatrical production of the 1692 witchcraft trial of Bridget Bishop. This annual production by History Alive allows the audience to take part in the trial, acting as the jury as they listen to evidence from Bishop’s Puritan neighbors, cross examine witnesses, and ultimately determine the outcome.

A totally unique way to immerse yourself in the history of the Salem Witch Trials, Cry Innocent is a popular Haunted Happenings attraction that often sells out. Seating is limited this October to create adequate room for spacing, so if you already know Cry Innocent is on your list for this October, we recommend purchasing your tickets here in advance.

As you enter Old Town Hall to experience Cry Innocent, the year is 1692. You’ve just learned that Bridget Bishop, one of your Puritan neighbors who lived only a couple of blocks from where you are seated, has been accused of practicing witchcraft and you will be serving on her jury. In a stirring performance by talented local actors, you’ll be able to hear evidence from witnesses as to why Bishop was accused, ask your own questions and ultimately determine the outcome.

For the 2021 season, Cry Innocent is modified to comply with COVID-19 safety guidance. Guests (and Puritans) will be masked as the performance takes place indoors, and seating in the theater will be adequately distanced. Cry Innocent often sells out, especially in October, so be sure to plan your visit early and order your tickets ahead of your arrival to Salem.

Cry Innocent takes place daily at 1:30 pm throughout October 2021, with additional shows being added based on availability, and on November 6, 7, 13, and 14, 2021. On the day of your performance, meet at Old Town Hall (32 Derby Square) on the side of the building facing Essex Street.

Can’t make it to Salem this fall? History Alive’s immersive historic theatrical productions are not limited to Old Town Hall! Cry Innocent typically runs June through October with some dates in November, and History Alive offers virtual performances and other events and walking tours around Salem throughout the year. For students and groups, you can even book a virtual classroom performance! For all the latest updates from Cry Innocent and History Alive, we recommend following them on Facebook.
