NOTE: City Parking in the garages and Church Street Lot is $20 per day on weekends and holidays in October.
Parking at Shetland ParkBeginning the weekend of September 26, two of Shetland Park's parking lots are available for visitors to Salem for the Haunted Happenings festivities. Located next to Pickering Wharf, Shetland Park is convenient to many attractions along Derby Street and the Downtown shopping area. On Fridays, the parking will become available after 5:00 PM. On Saturdays and Sundays, the lots will be open from 8:00 AM. These spaces will be available at a flat rate of $15.00. A map of our location is linked below.

Green Transit
Please note: On Halloween night the final train to North Station is at 11:24 PM, the final north-bound train to Rockport is 12:38 AM, and the final north-bound train to Newburyport is at 9:59 PM. The MBTA will be adding trains to their normal service around these departure times.
Train & Bus: Train service is available on the Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail Line from Boston's North Station. At the Salem Depot, exit up the stairs. It is a five-minute walk to the Visitor Center. Bus service is availabe on bus #450 or #455 from Boston's Haymarket Square. For train and bus information, contact the MBTA for more information at (800) 392-6100 or www.mbta.com. It takes approximately 30 minutes to travel between Salem and Boston by train, and one hour by bus.
Ferry: Ferry service from Boston is available with a fast, comfortable ride in only 45 minutes from Boston's Central Wharf, home of the New England Aquarium. Scheduled service runs early in the morning and late into the evening. In 2008, ferry service is available from May 23 until November 2. Schedule, fares and reservations are available from www.salemferry.com.
Alternate Routes to Salem for October 2008
Traffic to Salem is expected to be significant during the month of October, particularly on weekends. Generally, motorists travel to Salem via Route 114 East. We would strongly discourage your using this route. Instead, you are advised to take alternate routes to Salem in order to minimize travel time.
From Points West & South (via MassPike & Ted Willilams Tunnel)
Note: routes still functional despite some tunnel closures.
From/To Route 90/MassPike
- To Salem: Continue on I-90/Masspike East and take Exit 25 (South Boston) and follow signs to rejoin I-90 East to Logan Airport/1A. Follow Route 1A all the way into Salem.
- From Salem: Take Route 1A South to the Ted Williams Tunnel. From the tunnel take Exit 25 to South Boston surface streets. Take a left on Congress Street, left on West Service Road and right onto the South Boston Bypass Road. Take a right onto northbound Frontage Road to the I-90 West on-ramp.
From/To Points South
- To Salem: Take Route 93 North Exit 18 (Mass Avenue/Frontage Road) and go to the far right lane. At the second traffic signal, take a right onto the South Boston Bypass Road and follow signs to access the Ted Williams Tunnel and I-90 East/Logan Airport. From the Williams Tunnel, take Route 1A North. Follow Route 1A all the way into Salem.
- From Salem:Take Route 1A South to the Ted Williams Tunnel. From the tunnel take Exit 25 to South Boston surface streets. Take a left on Congress Street, left on West Service Road and right onto the South Boston Bypass Road. Take a left onto southbound Frontage Road to the I-93 South on-ramp.
